Dear Friends, I have thought long and hard about what I would say today. And for once I am speechless. Because I have to say goodbye. And I don't know how to do that. I have to say goodbye to a President that I have worked for for ten years. A man who has been the embodiment of decency and what is best about America. A presidency which I firmly believe will be regarded as one of the most productive, successful and impactful in history. I have to say goodbye to a job that I cherish. I have to say goodbye to friends and colleagues. I have to say goodbye to a country. A country whose people have welcomed embraced my husband and me without reservation. A country which taught me about values and decency and community and the perfection of a moment. A country that taught me you don't have to be the biggest or strongest to bring true value to the world. How do I do that? As the next chapter me unfolds, there is one thing I know for sure and that is I want to continue to build on the great work we have all done together. All the while believing in the best in people and fighting for the world I want to see. And that work will inevitably be tough. And during those times I will remember the kindness of strangers. Strangers who have become friends even though we have never met. Friends who stop me on the street, send me letters, send me messages all offering support and thanks. So I'm not going to say goodbye today. Because I'm going to bring you all with me whether you like it or not. Today I look back on the last 3.5 years as the most satisfying, productive and happiest years of my life. I am full of immense gratitude for President Obama for having faith in me and giving me this opportunity and every Dane from around the Kingdom who has made it so. As tears will inevitably flow as we take off from Copenhagen this afternoon we cannot help but be filled with immense gratitude. Thank you all. From the bottom of my heart. Vi ses mine venner. And for the last time as Ambassador: 🇺🇸🇩🇰 Rufus
